The City of Niceville has programs in the Library, Children's Park, Community Center, and Youth Center for citizens to enjoy. Additional community events are posted here as well.

November 2008


   Nov. 1st- The Department of Environmental Protection’s Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park will hold their fall Pioneer Day event. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Emerald Coast State Parks. Family activities will include candle-dipping, rag doll making, weaving and campfire cooking demonstrations. Other special activities include live dulcimer and flute music, quilting, storytelling and more. The main feature is the restored late 1800’s chuck wagon. Event will be held between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. For more information see flyer.

   Nov. 4th- Remington Display - Explore the art of Frederic Remington, the painter who gave America the iconic images of cowboys as we remember them today. This Teacher's Discovery display banners will be in YS.    Nov. 5th-6th- Raising Readers-Preshcool Storytime - Inspire your future reader at our preschool storytime. Join us for exciting stories selected just for children ages 3-5 years old. Programs will be held in Youth Services. Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

   Nov. 7th- Discover the sights and sounds of nature at night! Nonie ’s Ark Animal Encounters will host a free hour-long night walk for the Choctawhatchee Audubon Society on Friday, at 5:00 p.m. at Oak Tree Nature Park in Mary Esther. All are invited but focus is on ages 4-10. Bring a flashlight/ headlamp to light your way & please wear bug repellent. RSVP to 862-9588 or www.choctawhatcheeaudubon.org

   Nov. 7-9- 21st Annual Thunderbird Intertribal Powwow, "Discover the Rhythm of the Dance." Located at the Mullet Festival Site at the corner of SR 85 and College Blvd. Visit our website, Thunderbirdpowwow.org for schedules and events. Admission $2 at gate. This is a drug and alcohol free event.

   Nov. 7th- Baby Bookworms - This lapsit program consists of music, stories and rhymes especially chosen to build the bond between you and your child. Program is suited for children from birth to age 3. Please meet in YS program room on Fridays, Prewalkers 9:30, Walkers 10:30 NO program on Nov. 14th or 28th.

   Nov. 8th- Tools 'n' Treasures Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Niceville Library Niceville - Among items for sale will be old farm implements, antiques, gently used furniture, as well as tools and "treasures" donated by your friends and neighbors. In addition the Friends will have baked goods for sale. Popcorn and balloons will also be available for a small donation. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Niceville Public Library. Located at Community Center 204 N. Partin Drive (next door to the library)at 7:30 am until 1:00 pm

   Nov. 18th- Afterschool Program-Special Date; This program is for children 6-12 years old, held the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 4:15-5:30 unless otherwise noted. "Welcome to the Wild West" is our next adventure for the Time Trekkers. Cowboys, boomtowns, wagon trains and western plains are all included in this journey.    Dec. 2nd- Holiday Happenings in Youth Services Beginning Dec. 2nd our ever popular Guessing contest; how many pieces of candy are in the jar? One vote per visit, for children up to 13 years old.
The week Dec. 16th through Dec. 20th, something special will be offered for our youth patrons.
Dec. 16th; make a paper gingerbread man and ornaments to decorate Youth Services (all day) What holiday book do you love most? Vote all day. We'll post the favorite.
Dec. 17th; holiday activity sheets (as long as supply lasts) Throw a "snowball" to win a treat. (all day)
Dec. 18th; Christmas movie 10:30 a.m.
Dec. 19th; Last day to enter Guessing contest. Winner will be announced that evening. Decorate your own holiday bookmarks; one to keep, one to give. (all day)

   Dec. 5th - 26th- Drive/Walk-Around Display - The goal of the Niceville Community Christmas is to provide a free public event where residents and guests of our local community can come together to share in the beauty of the holiday season. The event will be reminiscent of an old fashioned holiday, complete with strolling carolers, plenty of local entertainment and a mix of homemade and professional displays.
