• Animal Control- PAWS and Police Dispatch-
  Animal complaints are handled primarily by the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) at 243-1525. The Niceville Police Department provides support for PAWS after hours and during emergencies at 729-4030. City licenses for cats and dogs can be purchased at the Utility Billing Dept.

• Parks Department- Director Rick Van Dyke; Supervisor Ken Filson
  This department is responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining the beautiful landscaping throughout the City of Niceville, along with various other projects. Comments or suggestions on park improvement are always welcome.

• Repair and Maintenance Department- Supervisor Willie Hines
  Call to report problems with street signs, traffic signs, safety hazards, and traffic markings. Our goal is to make the city as safe as humanly possible for all residents. Please report any potential problems.

• Sanitation Department- Supervisor David Lessard
  (850) 729-4064- The city will collect all of the following: trees cut no longer than 6 feet, bagged leaves, bagged grass, appliances, furniture, and construction/demolition debris (left by a resident, not a contractor). Yard Waste Removal Guidelines are listed below.

• Streets Department- Supervisor Kenny Bishop
  Call to report potholes in the pavement, drainage problems, and obstructions in the right-of-way. Comments or suggestions on improvement are always welcome.

• Water and Sewer Department- Superintendent Jerry Regans
  Call to report water leaks on the city side of water meters, trouble with city sewer lines, or for information about the city water system. For information concerning water bills or deposits, call City Hall at 729-4000.

Parks Department

The Parks Department is responsible for the landscape maintenance and upkeep of approximately 150 acres of city parks and right of ways. This includes installing irrigation systems, cutting grass, maintaining the landscape plantings and providing the beautiful Christmas Decoration we enjoy each year.

Projects
The Parks Department personnel has finished installing the final components of the reuse irrigation system at the Twin Oaks Recreation Complex and Mullet Festival Site. Over 20 acres of turf area is now being irrigated with reclaimed water at this site. Plans are also underway to convert other city parks and recreation areas to reuse irrigation including the Softball Complex, City Hall and the Niceville Little League Park. These measures are part of an agreement between the City of Niceville and the Northwest Florida Water Management District to enact water conservation measures by using non-potable sources of water for irrigation. This Department is also assisting the Repair and Maintenance Dept. with Turkey Creek and the Water & Sewer building construction.

Repair and Maintenance Department

The responsibilities and duties of the R & M Department are diverse and wide ranging. Everyday tasks range from installing or replacing a street sign to building the Turkey Creek Boardwalk. The members of this department are certified air conditioning and heating technicians, state certified traffic technicians, plumbers, carpenters and electricians. Originally establish as a department to work in support of the other city departments, the skill and professionalism exhibited by these craftsman soon elevated their job responsibilities. Facilities such as the Turkey Creek Boardwalk, the Niceville Community Center and Youth Center are examples of the projects this department has completed.

Projects
The Repair and Maintenance Department is working on adding an additional 700 feet to the Turkey Creek walk on the northern end. This section located off of College Blvd. is about 95% complete as of mid December. Pavilions have been completed with restroom facilities in the last stages of construction. Also in progress is the relocation of the Water and Sewer Maintenance building's present location on Partin Dr. to South Cedar Ave.

Sanitation Department

The Sanitation Department provides the residential curb side yard waste and debris removal service. This service includes items such as bagged leaves, bagged grass clippings, appliances, and furniture, trees cut no longer than six feet and construction /demolition debris left by the resident. The city requires contractors and tree services to remove all debris they generate. Due to landfill restrictions some debris must be picked up and disposed of separately. All items should be placed at the curb on your assigned pickup day. Normal pickup days for yard waste are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Any remaining items such as trees, furniture, appliances and construction debris are scheduled for a subsequent pickup. For additional information you can contact Public Works at 729-4064.

Yard Waste Removal Guidelines
General information: All debris should be placed at the curb on your assigned pick-up day. This enables the city crews to remove the bagged debris along with small items and schedule additional pick-ups if needed.

• Leaves, grass clippings and small limbs: All leaves, grass clippings and small debris must be bagged. Scheduled pick-up days are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday according to your address. This material is hauled to the Wright Landfill which is operated by the Okaloosa County Solid Waste Department.

• Large trees and construction debris: These materials are generally picked up on Thursday and Friday. All construction material and large trees are disposed in C& D landfills located in North Okaloosa and Walton Counties.

• Furniture and appliances: These items require separate pick up and disposal also. Furniture is transported to the solid waste facility in Fort Walton Beach and the appliances are hauled to a recycling drop off facility in North Okaloosa County.

• Tree services and contractors: The city requires all tree service companies and building contractors to remove and dispose of any debris they generate. When using the services of a contractor, be sure their quote to you includes debris removal.

• Household garbage and recycling services are contracted by the city through Waste Management Inc. Any comments or questions regarding this service can be obtained by calling Niceville City Hall at 729-4000.

Street Department

The Street Department is primarily responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of approximately 96 miles of city streets and right of ways. This responsibility includes repairing damaged roadways, drainage systems, sidewalks along with clearing and removing obstructions or safety hazards from the right of way. Please feel free to contact the Public Works Department if you have any questions or concerns with a city street or right of way. It is our goal to make the access for motorist and pedestrians as safe as possible.

Projects

Street Resurfacing
The city has embarked on a comprehensive street resurfacing program. With the completion of the present phase of resurfacing approximately 10 miles of roadway will have been completed thus far this year. Any questions you may have regarding the proposed schedule for resurfacing can be directed to Public Works or to Bruce Price.

Drainage
The city recently completed the removal and replacement of the stream outfall system under Bayshore Drive near 27th Street.
